German painter born in East Berlin, based in Tbilisi since 1996. Expressionist works rooted in the Caucasus — horses, steppe, borderlands and memory.
Hans Heiner Buhr is a German painter and crypto artist, born in East Berlin in 1965 and based in Tbilisi, Georgia since 1996.
His work grows out of the landscapes, borderlands and historical tensions of the Caucasus — horses, steppe, mountain regions, trade routes, memory and conflict. Working mainly in an expressive figurative tradition, Buhr combines personal biography with the visual atmosphere of Georgia and the wider South Caucasus.
He studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and has exhibited in Tbilisi galleries since 1998. Since 2019 he has also been active in crypto art, with works minted on SuperRare, Tezos/objkt and Bitcoin Ordinals.
His paintings are held in private collections in Berlin, Vienna, Amsterdam, Paris, London, Tbilisi and one of his works, Pack Horses New York City, was acquired by the Georgian Museum of Fine Arts in Tbilisi in 2023.
Heiner Buhr lives and works between Tbilisi and Saguramo.
Studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and previously in Dresden. Developed an independent painting practice between Berlin, Amsterdam and Tbilisi.
