Creating art is often a long, brutal, lonely and unrewarding affair. For some, however, it's as inescapable as it is inevitable--almost genetically programmed into our very beings.
As I walk or sit or drive or even stand still, my eyes will lock on part of my immediate environment. I'll start to move around it a bit, seeing it shift from an isolated object from various perspectives to part of a pattern, a composition. Having worked so long at this, the underlying connections emerge and themselves become the object of my attention. And, having worked so long at this, I push to find ever more complex, yet ultimately simple webs of these connective forces. These re-resolve into the set of objects in front of me.
I do this all the time. I can't help it.
Then, I'll bring my camera "to work", to do this formally. With a library of work behind me, I intuitively/mentally sort these "lookings" into one that reveals something new, something glowing, something that points to the beauty of the ultimately unknowable, always-present, complex yet integral binding energy of our existence.
After that, it's just craft.
