Monty Wheeler

Monty Wheeler was born in Houston Texas and currently lives in Katy Texas with his wife and three sons. He grew up learning metalworking and woodworking in his father's studio and created his first mixed metal sculpture when he was 10 years old.

After graduating from high school he went to Texas A&M University to study engineering. As a graduate engineering student he spent two years working with NASA and made multiple flights on the KC-135 based in Ellington Field where he performed fluid mechanics experiments in zero- gravity for his masters thesis. "Mathematics and Physics have always been fascinating to me. I'm very inquisitive and want to understand why and how our physical world works."

After college Monty moved back to Houston where he started working as an engineer. "So many things inspire me, one minute it could be the setting sun on a mountain ridge, the next minute it could be a beautifully engineered machine. I think that beauty has a certain continuity in our lives and experiences and I try to reflect that in my art."

His work is on display at Copper Moon Gallery in Taos New Mexico.
