About The Artwork
This is a test piece for my series Stones, Paper, Scissors which I hope will become a body of work I do on a much larger scale. I do graphite rubbings of megalithic stones on to a fine Japanese paper perfect for this purpose, then make copies of the original rubbings onto a textured paper. I paint the landscape, sketch where the stones are in the landscape then I trace the basic outline of the stone onto parchment paper then onto the Xeroxed stone rubbing paper and tear the shape of the stone. Paste that down into the landscape then draw and paint back into the stone to build it up.
