About The Artwork

This piece belongs to the INFORMOUT series which I create while travelling Italy, Belgium and Germany. I also included found papers and other materials to bound it to the country I created it and to fix the place and the thoughts I had at this time, at this place. The title of this is "Karmakaraoke" and it describes the strange situation that I was in. My heart was heavy and sad yet excited and happy at the same time. It sounds a little bit schizophrenic and I felt like this in a way. This must be love. The color and material is a mix of found stuff and heavy paper I worked on. I love to work with used, often found materials and papers. It has more spirit, more live in itself and it matches in a perfect way the kind I work. I hope the viewer will find a way to "feel" the power of the shapes and colors that work with each other. Tell me, what do you see and feel when you take a look at it? This piece should be framed for the wall. The is no white frame around, the shape is irregular and looks beautiful in a wooden frame.

Thomas Atzenbeck is a German artist living and working in Cologne, Germany. He went to school at the School of Art and Design in Fachhochschule Aachen, Germany. He also worked for several years as a Type Painter. Currently he’s influenced by artists such as Antoni Tapíes, Cy Twombly, Sigmar Polke, Joseph Beuys, Martin Kippenberger, Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol. All these artists have had a special meaning to him at some point in his life. He started drawing and painting as a kid around the age of 4 or 5 and hasn’t stopped since. Throughout the last few years, he’s been focusing less on painting and getting more into drawing and printing, in addition to experimenting with different art forms. He’s always searching for new ways to create art.   If you ask an artist what the meaning of their art is, they’ll give you an array of different answers and sometimes even none. Thomas’ art varies in meaning depending on his current mindset, his feelings on politics and whatever thoughts pop into his mind. It can range from satirical to bitter, and even comical depending on his current view on the world. His art is a reflection of his frustration with the state of affairs in the world and hopes it’s not too late for all of us. Thomas’ art is a method to keep his mind together and a way to bring us all together and forget our frustrations with the direction of humanity.   At the moment, Thomas is in and around Germany and Europe doing exhibitions and events. In the future, he aspires to put his art on tour and do more collaborations with other artists worldwide and in an America.
