About The Artwork

One of a series of masks with West African Adinkra symbols, created on handmade recycled paper gifted during a residency in Slovenian, using discarded Nestle coffee pods hand collected during a residency in Switzerland, and milk paint (Swiss milk and acrylic paint made in Grenada).

Suelin's work revolves around questions of identity, culture, history and tradition, and takes the form of mixed media paintings, drawings and collages, many of them on found/recycled substrates, as well as canvas and paper. She discusses her artist’s study in conference and journal papers. She has participated in residencies in Andorra, Haiti, Slovenia and Romania, where she has presented on Grenadian art and culture. Her works have been shown in group shows in Andorra, Spain, China, South Korea, Switzerland, Haiti, Romania, Slovenia, the UK, the USA, Trinidad and Grenada. Her most recent paper ‘Painting the Grenada Revolution’ was published in 2013 in the Social and Economic Studies (SES) journal, Volume 62 number 3 published by Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social & Economic Studies, The University of The West Indies Mona Campus, Jamaica. It was republished as part of Perspectives on the Grenada Revolution 1979 -1983 by Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2017.
