About The Artwork

This collage is a reflection on the architecture and cultural influences seen in Southern Portugal. In the environment many ‘billboards’ display evidence of the competition for unauthorised advertising, otherwise known as ‘flyposting’. The pasting and repasting of posters generates a worn and torn surface that reflects combative interfering of people vying to share limited available space. The visual impression is one of deconstruction due to a perceived desire to dominate. The result of the constant competitive activity often generates interesting abstract art, which although accidental, is energetic and serendipitous. The collage is on a joinery redwood frame which was machine cut. The frame has a 3mm plywood primed and glued to the frame to provide a lightweight, strong and stable surface upon which the collage was created. Finally the work was frame-edged with the best quality joinery redwood edging strip 3.5cm wide to form a neat edge to the whole. So that the work may be hung flat and flush to any wall keyway hangers were hand fitted into the two top corner blocks of the frame.
