About The Artwork

"Unicorn Couple" is an encaustic piece that blurs the boundaries between reality and fantasy. The central image portrays a couple wearing unicorn masks, seated amidst a silver and gray dreamscape, surrounded by a forest of flowers. Executed through a meticulous photo transfer process into an encaustic wax medium on a wooden panel, the artwork is framed in a vintage Victorian wooden frame, repainted in a dark silver-gray hue. Beneath the surface, unicorn-themed Valentine's Day cards are collaged in, their vibrant colors subtly peeking through the layers of wax. The symbolism within the piece unfolds organically, exploring the unique and profound love connection between two individuals. The interplay of the central image and the lively collage work invites viewers to ponder the depth and individuality of the emotional bond shared by the couple, where love takes on a distinctive and personal form.

"My art is a combination of photography, encaustic, and painting. I transfer images directly into beeswax, and embellish with colored wax mediums I make from oil-based or powdered pigments. I enjoy the wide range of possibilities inherent in this technique - the evocative and distressed tones, and especially the additive and subtractive qualities that come along with the process. Through my art, I continue to express concepts of growth and awareness, and to promote the preservation of our external environment as well as the cultivation of our inner self."
