Evening Games 2 - Montage Cubist Print

Evening Games 2 ^ Click on Prints (next to where it says Original) to see the print details^ Memories of evenings playing games with family and friends were the inspiration for this picture. The picture comprises many items from old board games around our home with a framed photo depicting a similar theme in the background (Evening Games 1). My artwork explores the cross-overs between photography, collage, digital art and cubist paintings as a way of capturing memories and imagination. The pictures are created using a pen and ink style digitally, based upon my own photographs, and are printed with high-definition inks on stretched canvas. I wanted to capture the essence of playing games from different viewpoints with tumbling dice, cards, draughts, chess pieces, poker dice, tiled floor, wooden building bricks, backgammon and wooden tables accompanied by some wine and grapes. My picture attempts to capture the experience by using a cubist composition of several views, much like you would in real life. An informal rectangular and oblique structure was chosen to compose the elements The bright colour scheme was chosen to bring an energetic element into the picture representing a vibrant trading city life. Impressionist principles like abstraction, false colour and a line and ink style were used to help the viewer imagine the scene.
