Virtual Reality for All We strap on the headset, And we enter a new world, A world of endless possibilities, A world where anything is possible, We hear the bark of our dogs, As they wag their tails in excitement, They jump up and down, As they wait for their turn to try, We put on the headset for them, And we watch as they explore, They sniff and they bark, As they run and they roar, They chase rabbits and squirrels, They swim in the ocean and the river, They climb mountains and hills, And they feel like they can go on forever, We take off the headset for them, And we see the excitement in their eyes, They wag their tails and lick our faces, As if to say thank you for the best day of their lives. But it's not just for dogs, This virtual world is for all, For cats and for birds, For horses and for rabbits, For all the animals of the world, This virtual reality is for them, A place where they can be free, And explore without any limits.

While Mark M. Whelan's art is primarily portraits and figurative pictures. However, his aim is not to represent a beautiful image of a person or an individual in a futuristic context; rather, it’s an ongoing exploration of the process of how art is created concerning its structure, composition, colour, and technique. Like many figurative painters of his generation, it’s impossible for Whelan to avoid the looming shadows of Francisco Goya, Francis Bacon, Hieronymus Bosch and Lucian Freud, all of which have dominated the figurative world, their paintings both evocative, emotional and full of existential angst and anticipation of an uncertain future. However, Whelan is finding his futuristic path into the light, away from these titans of the art world, his work constantly seeking to go beyond the discipline of representational art and the more gestural expressionism that we are familiar with in the figurative paintings of Bacon.
