About The Artwork

This digital artwork will be thoughtfully printed on matte paper, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in its essence. It is presented unframed, with the optimal display achieved through framing, though hardware is not included. This piece is a personal interpretation of Genus Tiboichina, Glory Plants, and Bougainvillea—flowers and plants thriving in my neighborhood. As I anticipate moving from this place in the future, I aim to capture its beauty through paintings and photographs. This locale holds sentimental value, being where I spent the first blissful months of my marriage. The piece, depicting sensuous flowers, conveys the attraction shared between my husband and me. In addition, I integrate a political statement, "no soy buena para el encierro" (I am not good for lockdown), aiming to express my frustration and draw attention to the political corruption plaguing Ecuador. The scandal during quarantine, where hospitals were discovered offering lucrative contracts for COVID-19 biosecurity equipment, fueled my anger. I hope viewers can resonate with the experience within the confines of their homes. I chose this medium because it allows me to leverage the best of digital color after initially painting the picture with watercolors—different stages reflecting various phases of happiness.

An Ecuadorian artist, navigates the local artistic landscape with a distinctive approach, diverging from the typical dichotomy prevalent among Quitenian artists. Rather than aligning with the bohemian left or the elite, art-educated right, Angela embraces her identity as an ambitious Quitenian with a down-to-earth perspective. Balancing her artistic pursuits with a middle-class sensibility, Angela introduces a unique voice in the narrative of Ecuador's art scene. She modestly considers herself a sui generis expressionist, influenced by her early exposure to art through her mother, Angie, and the captivating oil-painting sessions with her aunt-in-law, the esteemed artist Micaela Almeida.Angela's artistic journey began with humble doodles of flowers, symbolizing intimacy and family bonds. Her style, marked by an indiscriminate use of colors, reflects her innate creativity. Turning to digital mediums for expression, she reserves traditional materials for moments of artistic freedom. Angela, embracing vulnerability, desires a return to the simplicity of white canvases. She discreetly embeds messages in her art, inviting viewers to discover joy in nature scenes, and showcasing Quitenian humor with humility and depth.
