Alexander Hamilton Pop Art print - Detail of the ten-dollar bill. Original: giclee on canvas hand signed, numbered and dated - 48" x 48" with 2" extra border - rolled / shipped in tube. Prints - photo paper, fine art paper or canvas signed and dated. The United States ten-dollar bill ($10) is a denomination of U.S. currency. The first U.S. Secretary of the Treasury (1789 - 95), Alexander Hamilton, is currently featured on the obverse of the bill, while the U.S. Treasury Building is featured on the reverse. Hamilton is one of two non-presidents featured on currently issued U.S. bills, the other being Benjamin Franklin on the $100 bill. Hamilton is one of only four people featured on U.S. paper currency (1861 to the present) who were not born in the continental United States; he was from the West Indies. In 2015 it was announced that the obverse portrait of Hamilton would be replaced by the portrait of an as yet undecided woman, starting in 2020. The Secretary also made clear, however, that Hamilton would continue to be on the bill in some form. Also, Hamilton is a musical with music, lyrics, and book by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The show was inspired by the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton, by historian Ron Chernow. The musical made its Off-Broadway debut at The Public Theater in February 2015, where its engagement was sold out. The show transferred to Broadway in August 2015 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. On Broadway, it has received enthusiastic critical acclaim and unprecedented advance box office sales, as well as a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. The Off-Broadway production of Hamilton won the 2015 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical as well as seven other Drama Desk Awards out of 14 total nominations.
