The images I choose are either painted from life or from photos I take. The subjects and techniques are varied and generally reflect moments in my daily life. The goal of everything I paint is to offer a visually interesting vehicle for the viewer to have a personal contemplative experience which may or may not be related to the subject. In the past three years I have been painting using Procreate, however, these images are not intended to mimic any tradition drawing or painting media, rather I use the medium in its most basic form. The technique is much the same as painting, however, the characteristics of the mark making adhere to what the pen produces which limits and tests what can be done with the medium. The reason I use this medium is because I always have access to it and can work on my pictures when I have a break. I have been a teacher most of my adult life and this limits the amount of art I can produce using traditional media, but since I have been using Procreate and my I pad, I have been able to produce more consistently.
