This work aims to convey surveillance's inherent nature at one of the leading social media companies. The workspace is constantly monitored to the point that I imagine one day; drones will be considered an additional security measure. Propaganda, with its cunning ways Stifles curiosity, and dulls our gaze It tells us what to think, and what to believe And leaves no room, for doubt or for reprieve It feeds us lies, and disguises them as truth And manipulates our thoughts, and our views It tells us what's right, and what's wrong And leaves no room, for critical thinking or for song It tells us what to fear, and what to avoid And uses our emotions, to destroy Our capacity for reason, and our desire to know And leaves us blindly following, wherever they go But we must not be fooled, by their clever guise We must see through the propaganda, with open eyes And reject their control, and their power And reclaim our curiosity, in this digital hour. This artwork is featured in Lil Diamond Smith's Book "Futurist: Silicon Valley Edition." available on Amazon and Apple.

While Mark M. Whelan's art is primarily portraits and figurative pictures. However, his aim is not to represent a beautiful image of a person or an individual in a futuristic context; rather, it’s an ongoing exploration of the process of how art is created concerning its structure, composition, colour, and technique. Like many figurative painters of his generation, it’s impossible for Whelan to avoid the looming shadows of Francisco Goya, Francis Bacon, Hieronymus Bosch and Lucian Freud, all of which have dominated the figurative world, their paintings both evocative, emotional and full of existential angst and anticipation of an uncertain future. However, Whelan is finding his futuristic path into the light, away from these titans of the art world, his work constantly seeking to go beyond the discipline of representational art and the more gestural expressionism that we are familiar with in the figurative paintings of Bacon.
