About The Artwork

A Simple Red Pear. I was struggling to draw something different and was looking at things around the house for inspiration. I also looked at various things in the desert where I live and at tools in my garage but nothing was ringing any bells for me. I was in an art slump, I couldn't find anything to make my creative juices flow. Later that day while doing the weekly grocery shopping I saw exactly what I was looking for, my favorite fruit, pears. A red one and a yellow one. The red pear looked as if someone buffed it to a high gloss. The yellow pear had a rounded shape at its bottom which caused it to lean slightly to one side. Both looked delicious, but before I could bite into them I had to draw them. Once at home I placed them on my drawing table with a white cloth placed underneath them. The north light coming through the window made their shadow fall slightly to the left, but something was wrong, they didn't look good together. It was as if they were telling me they wanted to have separate portraits. I moved the yellow pear off the table. The light reflecting off the red pear seemed to glow on the white cloth. I quickly took a photo with my I-phone to keep the image fresh. This was it, the inspiration I was looking to find, a simple red pear, a minimalist drawing. My drawing was made by applying multiple layers of PrismaColor pencil on Bristol smooth paper. The colors I used in making "A Simple Red Pear" were canary yellow, yellow peach, crimson red, violet, gray violet, sienna brown, grass green, charcoal gray, light gray, white, and acrylic white pen. A peach-colored pencil was used to blend and burnish the work to a high gloss. This little work took a total of six hours to produce, no easy task, but it was a rewarding one. The work came out very well and the pear was juicy and delicious. Thanks for reading, and enjoy a Simple Red Pear.
