There were three main factors that inspired this illustration: the hair (I love drawing intricate hair styles); the challenge (I had never tried to accurately illustrate a tattoo in a portrait); :Wumpscut (Rudy's music fills me with energy). Mood? The only mood I would attribute to this illustration is from the song by :Wumpscut. He asks... "Did you ever meet him?" Referring to God, obviously. Many people who "pretend to be religious" or "imitate the trappings of holiness" carry on with smug righteousness or judging others, but few try to find the humility to "meet him". Many spiritual people can spend their whole lives seeking God, or some semblance of him, but more often than not, they lose sight of what's important in scripture and focus instead on the promotion of wrath of God or ways to use religious texts to promote their own self-worth at the detriment of others. Do you seek him? Why do I use ink? Ink is like life. There are no take-backs. You must commit to a choice and deal with the consequences. Yes, sometimes, even after multiple hours working on a drawing, I must start over because I wasn't paying attention to my pain levels or how tired I was, but that's life, no? Start again, learn from the mistakes. I commit to the moment and have faith in myself; when it's good, I see the brilliance of myself.
