About The Artwork

The Venice Carnival has its roots in the distant pagan past. The word "carnival" itself comes from the Latin carrus navalis (which means "amusing chariot", "ship of festive processions") - this is how the ritual carriage-ship was called in ancient times, on which idols were carried in Europe back in the distant Bronze Age during the holidays fertility. Venetian carnivals gradually spread across the globe. The main attributes of any carnival are costumes and masks, designed to hide social differences and equalize everyone during the festival. At home, Venetian masks gained such popularity that they began to be worn constantly. It is worth noting that almost all townspeople would prefer to hide their faces without any carnival. Venice is a relatively small city, and neighbors do not need to know where you went in the evening or from which house you crawled out in the morning. Original watercolor painting. Technique: watercolors on special thick high quality watercolor paper (200gr/mq) Size: 16.4x11.7 inches (42x29.5 cm) Here you are buying directly from the artist.
