Mixed media on wood panel. A woman looks upward, reflecting on what has come before. Her blood, her bones... all that she has inherited have came from those ancestors before her. This mixed media work honors the Disir, the sacred feminine spirits of Norse tradition and myth who protect and nurture their female descendants. Though depicted as faceless, they are not unseen; nor are they forgotten. The Mugwort is said to be one of nine sacred herbs, in the modern Northern tradition, of paganism/shamanism. It is a favorite of wise women for its usefulness in relation to the female reproductive system and often frequents sleep pillows and so is associated with dreams and dreamtime.
