Elle Tracey creates ethereal works exploring the perceived separation between humans and our natural environment, and the politics of material value. The otherworldly and sometimes abstracted qualities of her subjects speak to the detachment that many people feel with nature, an estranged perspective that can act as a dark catalyst for capitalistic extraction. Despite the alien qualities of her subjects, the beauty with which they’re portrayed presents a new perspective of wonder and reverence. Her work asks viewers to appreciate the miraculousness of all of our existence, and respect the inherent value of beings and organic systems above their potential for exploitation.
