While searching for the Geminids one winter night, I noticed a blur in the constellation Orion, south of the three stars of the belt. Further research revealed that this--the Orion Nebula--has taught astronomers much about star and planetary formation, and how planetary systems are formed from collapsing clouds of gas and dust. My drawing is an abstraction of the moment of my own discovery. The rim of the binoculars is slightly suggested at the center while the flashes of Geminids appeared around the periphery.

Concepts of space, of Earth and its horizons; of the density of matter; the colors of light and the quiet beauty of natural forms--these ideas continually inspire me as an artist. Images of land and atmosphere have been rendered thousands of times and in a myriad of ways, yet I search within these objects and phenomena for a meditative and untouched space--worthy of my personal inquiry and documentation.
