friendship Drawing

I drew this for a friend who also happens to be an artist. Back in college, when I asked her what her spirit animal was, she told me the Buffalo. When I asked her why, she said she didn’t know why, which I thought was ridiculous until she asked me why my spirit animal was the Wolf and I realized I had no idea why. We laughed and laughed and laughed. We knew which animal we loved and related to intuitively, even though we didn’t yet know why that was. What is it that draws us intuitively to a creature we may not have even ever seen before in the wild or interacted with? What brings us close to some people and not others? Intuition is powerful, it’s a spark, and it speaks to us. The Egyptians believed animals were the messengers of the gods, sent to dwell with us between their world and ours, helping us interpret their signs. In this picture, the Wolf and Buffalo run together. Each of them has a part of the other within, and if you look closely you can see the Buffalo in the tip of the Wolf’s tail and the wolf in the belly of the Buffalo. The wolf’s ribs run like keys of a piano, holding the belly that drives it to give chase, and the universe reflects in the back of the Buffalo as a blanket of planets and stars. Each is a part of the whole.
