Goodbye Norma Jeane Print

When I was a little girl, I remember seeing movies with Marilyn Monroe. It really wasn't until I was older that I understood what might have happened to her. I do a lot of research whenever I decide to do a portrait, whether it is the neighbor or someone famous. I learned a lot about our Norma Jeane Mortenson. I found the reference photo, an obscure picture of her from a website called Bored Panda that had 46 rare photos of her before she was famous. The only information about its origin is that it was circa 1945, no photographer was named. I chose this particular piece because it was before she 'became' Marilyn Monroe and she looked carefree, young & she had long hair blowing in the wind. The entire time I was creating this piece, 'Candle in the Wind' by Elton John kept replaying over and over in my head. I stuck with graphite to keep that vintage feel to the portrait. The main thing that I learned from this piece is that money is definitely not everything. To me, she looked a lot happier without it...
