With a period of time researching and reading into our current state of climatic change, the work needed to take a turn of direction. With a concious effort to respond and define what's really happening to our planet and how we are affecting it, whilst aiming to tie it within the vast traditions and context of landscape. This series, hopefully, responds to issues regarding landscape for a modern age, this affects all of us. Geographical and environmental issues form the spark, followed by artists such Friedrich, Ansel Adams, John Virtue, Frank Aurbach and Ian Francis have inspired how i have approached these conceptually and formally, looking at German Sublime and how the nature of something can be translated through approach direction. Some work directly with immediacy and materiality, whilst others form a solid and powerful image which holds the viewers attention. These Drawings process have been transient, going through form to form, destruction and construction have been key, often not knowing what outcome i will get but rather just exploring the unknown and questioning. I suppose the approach has been a lot like life, consistently pushing forward, revolving, failing, breaking, re-evaluating and rebuilding. I really hope you get something from these new works.

Martin Clarkson is an early career visual artist based in Nottingham, he is currently working amongst a community of creatives at 'Fishergate Point Studios'. Clarkson graduated from Loughborough University in 2012, since then he has participated in exhibitions extensively across the United Kingdom, alongside collaborating in overseas residencies and international exhibitions. Clarksons recent paintings intertwine the natural world with the nature of paint. These paintings offer the viewer a chance to immerse themselves into an unfamiliar place of wonder and fascination, whilst presenting a moment to pause and be inspired by the reality of our beautiful yet fragile 'One Planet' . Beneath the painted aesthetics, Clarksons' practice echo's a somber tone towards the shifting states of our planet, and how the cost of human intervention is impacting the natural balance of each ecosystem and the flora and fauna within it.
