Panagiotis has been drawing and painting most of his life and www.pontonfineart.com features a collection of oils and ink drawings begun in the late 1980s - many of which are in the artist collection. Panagiotis was born in Greece and grew up in a small village called Vilia at the foot of Mount Cithaeron. His influences are Greek mythology from Homer to the dramatists of the Classical period, Hellenic drawing, Byzantine art, the great moderns from Cezanne to Picasso and the works of Lucian Freud and Francis Bacon. He moved to Australia in the 1970s and continued his art practice - mainly ink works while living on his yacht (a Joshua Slocum Spray which he built from the hull up). He started painting portraits of family and friends around 2003 and has been selected as a finalist in a number of major portrait competitions in Australia. His most recent works are large works on paper and are based on studies of Greek mythological subjects.
