The work was drawn after visiting the old city of Side, based on its historical facts. The city of Side was one of the oldest known Greek colonies in Anatolia, which was founded by people from Kima Aeolian in the 7th century BC. e. on the site of an older settlement. The word "Side" in the local Anatolian language meant "pomegranate" - philological studies showed that this word has neither Greek nor Phoenician roots. The pomegranate was considered a symbol of abundance here. The period of prosperity of Side ended at the beginning of the 1st century BC. e., when the city and all of Pamphylia were captured by pirates who came from Pisidia and the mountainous regions of Cilicia. The residents of Side were forced to cede their markets and port to the pirates, as a result of which the city turned into a center of the slave trade. The pirates recognized the power of the Pontic king Mithridates VI Eupator, who was at war with Rome, over themselves and enjoyed his support.
