‘Returning Bombers Diptych’ Drawing

I was born in the 50s and often heard stories of WW2 from parents, auntie and uncles. It seemed like a world way back in the past, as it was unrecognisable to my life, but of course it was just a few years to them. As I got older and understood more of the history, I discovered that many of the pilots of these aircraft weren’t even 20 years old, and with vey little training. The estimate lifespan was minimal. Incredible courage. Imagery from that period has always fascinated me. The original artwork was a kind of collage. Digital prints of drawings I had mad with smoke, then coarse pieces of charcoal sprinkled into varnish. This seemed an appropriate use of materials. It was made primarily to produce prints, as the original was as flimsy as the retuning bombers.
