Shoe Shine For The 1% Print

I get a lot from looking through documentary photographs from earlier decades. Archetypes emerge over time, and I imagine ways of recombining them, juxtaposing them in new and provocative ways. This banker type with his blank round eyeglasses is a familiar figure from New Yorker cartoons and Monopoly games. The shoeshine pairing is a familiar scene and a rich metaphor: the patron with the elevated shoe, the man shining it from a servile position. It seems like a perfect analogy for our times. The dead figure works perfectly as a place for the banker to rest his shoe. All three figures really existed, but the drawing brought them together.
