About The Artwork

This is one of my earliest works while I was in community college. We had been building towards this piece with simpler drawings, but this was the finale of the class. Mel Wallace set up a large still life area in the studio with lighting, and our job was to put an easel somewhere in the studio and make a large drawing using vine charcoal. We taped off where our easels were just in case they got moved by accident so that we wouldn't lose our perspective. This took several weeks to complete since we only had two hour sessions, twice per week. I was very pleased with this drawing, and I still have it in my portfolio. It had been accidentally damaged with some of the charcoal being shaken off, but I was able to bring it back to life a bit in order to provide prints of it for my collectors. The original is a bit bigger than this, but I cropped it to 16x20 for these prints. I don't usually share student work, but this was a piece that I was always very proud of. It remains one of the few fine art pieces I did earlier in my life.

As an artist, my primary motivation is to “Inspire Life” through my work and all aspects of my career. I am inspired by the ability God has given us as human beings to create things - things that allow us all to thrive. Nestled in the heart of the Pacific Northwest, the vibrant landscapes and captivating seascapes have long been a source of inspiration for artists. For me, as a local artist based in Port Orchard, WA, these breathtaking surroundings have become the soul of my artistic journey. As you view my work, I invite you to embark on a visual exploration of the Pacific Northwest through the lens of my impressionistic art. Growing up amidst the majestic mountains, pristine coastlines, and lush forests of the Pacific Northwest, I discovered a profound connection with the region's natural beauty. Inspired by the works of impressionist masters like Monet, I found my artistic voice through the fusion of vibrant brushstrokes, luminous colors, and an unwavering passion for capturing the essence of this stunning landscape. Each stroke of my brush is an attempt to convey the ever-changing moods and light that dance across the landscape. From the sun-kissed beaches of the Olympic Peninsula to the misty forests of Mount Rainier, I strive to capture the fleeting moments that evoke a sense of tranquility and wonder unique to this area. My impressionistic style allows me to infuse my paintings with an ethereal quality, blurring the lines between reality and emotion. By employing bold brushwork and a vibrant color palette, I seek to transport viewers to the heart of the scene, where they can feel the whispering breeze, hear the crashing waves, and embrace the serenity that exists here. As I immerse myself in the creative process, I am continually amazed by the interplay of light and nature that defines this region. Whether it's the mystical fog rolling over Puget Sound or the fiery sunsets casting a warm glow on the mountains, every moment is an opportunity to capture the beauty that surrounds us. In sharing my art with the world, I aspire to evoke a sense of appreciation and connection to the Pacific Northwest's natural wonders. Through exhibitions and collaborations with local businesses, I aim to bring the spirit of this region into people's homes and hearts, encouraging them to explore and protect the precious landscapes that have shaped me as an artist.
