About The Artwork
The starkness of winter inspires me, especially when the sun travels through its milky path where light flies through the landscape gathering and loosing the details along its path. I work on Paper which I first crush and fold to make a kind of blind map of the drawing to come. I then paint the paper and using the folds and creases, map out the world that has stays in one's memory, recalling the vision that drew me outside. I want to mark these scenes for the future as we don't know how long they will still be here for

I am a fine artist, originally trained in South Africa, but working in London and Paris. I have continually renewed my work, which has always remained rooted in traditional practices such as painting, drawing and graphic work. My work is always figurative and often combines all three practices with the use of threads of red, to interweave the different elements as a means of embedding the threads into my drawings and painting. For a long time I painted only Amaryllis Lilies but more recently I have begun to make one-off artists books. Though my subjects might change, my obsession has always lain in telling a story without words that depends on observed reality and its relationship to the imagination.
