About The Artwork

I've been always atracted by these kind of communities located in Africa, ancestral tribes with incredible life styles, very different to ours in the globalized world; even, when I discovered that there are people who still haven't even heard about them, I was more motivated to show them through art to spread a message of love for all the diversity in our planet. Painting on a cardboar was very important to me, so this is a valueless material that you can easily find thrown anywhere, but as you can see, this can also become in an important art piece if you only decide to value it. A great analogy of what life can become if we all decide to see beauty in all around us.

My name is Erik J. De la hoz, and I am from Barranquilla, a city located in Colombia (South America); here, it's the Northern coast of the country, we've got several beaches and our temperture is around 30 to 40ºC long year, so it's a great place to get a perfect tanning. Hehe! Our oficial language is the Spanish one, but I learnt to speak in English and now it's become my second one. I am an Architect by profession, so long my life I have been thighly related to the fine Arts, even, I studied in the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Universidad del Atlántico, a renowned University in my country, there, I was an apprentice of Carmen Sierra Duarte, a painter from the artistic line and direct apprentice of the famous Spanish painter, Alejandro Obregón Roses (muralist, sculptor and engraver). She discovered then in a class, that I had a special visual condition, COLOUR BLINDNESS. And she really enjoyed coming close to my table and then asking me while looking at me in detail, like wanting to be able to see throw my eyes: ''What colour do you see the world, Erik?'', that's a really sweet and great memory I've got of those days.
