About The Artwork
The full title of this piece is "Take the eyes out, tuck them in your shirt...pretty soon you yourself will disappear." I moved to East Los Angeles from Japan with my parents when I was nine years old. One of the first words of "advice" they gave me was to avoid eye contact with all strangers, because "you never know what they are capable of." I couldn't blame them for being somewhat paranoid. We got burglarized within the first year of living there, and all vehicles we owned got broken into as well. I pretty much learned to equip myself with a cloak of invisibility in order to stay "safe."
