This modern take on a classic Cretan myth of Minotaur is a contemplation on the last day on Earth of a bull-headed creature. As he walks the corridors of his intricate maze the glimpse of a golden thread on the floor makes him wonder what his dear half-sister Ariadne is up to. Hence the subtitle of the artwork inscripted into its boarder: "What is this bull$hit, sis?" There is also a Latin quote written on the boarder of the artwork that says "Quod licit Iovi, non licet bovi", that can be translated to "What is allowed to Jupiter, is not allowed to the ox". "Golden Cretan sun rises gracefully over the heavy stones of Daedalic walls. Crisp morning air rings with a foretaste of a long-awaited Athenian tribute. How many years have passed? Seven? Nine? More? The baStard son of a punished queen is impatiently roaming the alleys of his Forbidden City. Gods may do what cattle may not. And yet he, the cursed child of a broken promise, now becomes an arbiter of the divine retribution. Something slipped under Asterion’s feet. A snake? A lizard? A glimpse of gold on the stone floor of the maze looks both familiar and alarming. A golden thread that ties the hectic memories of his troubled childhood. Ari, love, is it you? What bull$hit are you up to, my dear sister?"

Hello, dear art-lover! My name is Maria and I am a Ukrainian visual artist currently travelling South America. In my detailed colorful drawings I explore mystical, mythological and magical themes, paying a lot of attention to symbolism, meaning and intentional creation. For the past 7 years I've been working as a tattoo designer, thoughtfully creating meaningful tattoos for my clients. And though a piece of my heart will always belong to the world of tattoo, I feel like it's time for me to focus on my own personal art and incorporate all that knowledge of symbolism I've picked up in my former career to my new art. I've created Homo Bohemian as a project where I get to explore the mystical side of art, its magical powers and my own creative witchy expression.
