About The Artwork
Waterside Boy is a fashion collection by Yingi Goma that draws inspiration from riverine culture in West Africa. Waterside boy is mysterious in many ways, in the day he is just a regular riverine boy fishing and attending to make shift canoes by the shoreline. At night, he transforms into a different person during the township masquerade parade. Nobody knows who he is when performing in his masquerade attire. His concealed identity has been his greatest strength and power in his community.
