“The Serene” is part of the Reflection in Perspective collection that embodies how we see ourselves as well as the impact humans have had on the animal kingdom. The work is about the power of knowing oneself and the importance of reflection at every stage of our lives. The multitude of lines, whilst representing perspective itself also discuss the complexity of our inner selves and the various relationships we are tied to. The artwork incorporates a rich variety of creatures found on the planet and focuses on our connection to them. It is an entanglement of our souls as we work on sharing this planet. Each piece acknowledges the personalities and strengths that define these magnificent animals and the commonalities between us and them. The artist asks the viewer to look at the images as though looking in a mirror and seeing oneself. Known for its quiet demeanor and tranquility, the owl observes from above. Many cultures have deemed the owl as the animal personification of wisdom and knowledge. Athena (the goddess of wisdom) is said to have used the owl as her personal symbol. Other cultures connect the owl to magic and mystery. They are believed to have some of the best night vision of all animals, as well as have sensitive hearing which allows them to be alert and aware of their surroundings at all times. They enjoy the solitary, the quiet and the calm. Even their wings have adapted over the years for silent flight. Everything about this bird says, discreet yet present.
