About The Artwork

“Kateryna Returns” 2013: this dynamic portrait-installation is dedicated to the main character of the poem "Katerina" by the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko. A dramatic story telling about a young girl Kateryna, which ends with a heartbreaking tragedy. The modern look is presented in a crazy animated comics feed! The foundation of the portrait is created from a lightweight durable metal-plastic composite. The eyes of the character are created from two bicycle light bulbs (there are two modes of blinking light). On the reverse side of the installation there is a small power supply unit into which several ordinary finger-type batteries are installed. Kateryna’s portrait is made of many collage fragments, which use acrylic fluorescent paint, shiny foil, fragments of photographs and other printing products, as well as inlaid collages from colored oracal film. This psychedelic bright portrait was created in the legendary Ukrainian Midi Free studio. Radical hypnotic work!
