About The Artwork

If you travel out West, there are several sacred hoop locations one can visit. While I was researching more about Cangleska Wakan or Sacred Hoop locations, I was inspired to make this piece. Time can be warped, and one has to ask, "What is it, anyway?" The sacred hoop, sometimes called medicine wheel, is the Sioux concept that all things in the universe are connected in one continuous process of growth and progression. My own particular take on ' Cangleska Wakan' includes the four seasons, and full spectrum of color against the black sky. I found in making this piece, a way to feel more connected to the universe, during fragmented times.

A viewer once said of my work…” Your art reminds people of themselves, of who they really are. They recognize the art they forgot about...  They realize they do know, and can know, and that they never really lost themselves, that they are still there and it makes them happy…” I see art as something that is illuminating, healing and necessary. Creating something unique, merging color with form, and revealing new aesthetics, is a passion of mine. My body of visual artwork is influenced by a lifelong study of world cultures, music and dance. I believe through art, we can find a way see something beyond expectations, opening up new worlds of possibilities. My aim in my own work, is to emerge with an outcome that can move and awaken. My concern for the Earth’s environment, starting with our oceans, reveals itself through the images in some of my work, and the sustainable materials I am incorporating into my art practice.
