About The Artwork

'Ballet Shoes Merged' is a digital painting based on a previous 'Black Ballet Shoes' digital painting. The satin of the shoe and ribbon shows distinct patches of light, shining from the front, which varies with movement of the shoes. This version splits the surface into three tonal areas showing light, medium and dark. I used a bright pink colour to provide a pop art feel.

I am Sian Pritchard, a predominantly self-taught artist, with experience of studying fine art at undergraduate level. My background is varied, having studied for a BSc degree in Biology and Geography, and recently an MSc in Computer Science. I have always enjoyed spending time developing my artistic skills alongside these subjects. I mostly work with paint, inks and digital media. My works concentrate on colour and tone, with each piece designed to produce a bold effect. I have worked with acrylics for a number of years. This became one of my favoured mediums, due its versatility. Experimenting with mixed media allows me to make further discoveries as I work. My designs are generally planned, rather than instant, but more ideas develop whilst I am working on a project. I gain inspiration from a variety of contemporary and traditional artists. I particularly like pop art, impressionist and art deco works, and am currently concentrating on combining these styles. I prefer to work in bright colours, and I consider this combination carefully in advance.
