About The Artwork

Bikes left strewn casually locked to lampposts while their owner has hurried off elsewhere is a familiar sight in the city of Brussels, Belgium. It is a snapshot of the movement and speed of everyday life, frozen like the speed of a dynamic brushstroke caught on canvas. The settling of fine white snow on the solid black frame make it a particularly ephemeral image. Old fashioned black bikes are often seen in Brussels and add to the romance and traditional image of the city. The procreate app on ipad and apple pen helped me create this distinctive image; as it is done electronically it is available as a high quality print rather than an original.

My art is about place and identity, inspired by travel and experiences of locations around the world and the people who live there. My impression of the sense of place is the starting point; I try to capture the enticing idyllic atmosphere of faraway places, the colours, textures and character of the scene before me. I am enraptured by travel, and have lived in six different countries during my lifetime - I have taught and painted during these wonderful experiences around the world. My love of languages and different linguistic scripts is the starting point for my abstract works; and although they have a freedom of direction (as all abstract work must do), motifs and languages (mostly ancient) are the point of reference and substance for these creative investigations. Now I am based in Liverpool, England, my home city. In some of my work I have represented the different aspects of this intruiging city, the make up and temperament of the things I see every day. I hope you enjoy viewing the work as much as I have enjoyed creating it.
