La Catrina is one of the symbols that most represents Mexico in the Day of the Dead festivities. It has its origins in 1912, it was created by the Mexican engraver and caricaturist José Guadalupe Posada in order to make fun of the social classes of the time. Posadas is the creator of the famous garbancera skull, which represented a criticism of domestic employees who tried to look like the upper-class maidens of the post-revolutionary era.
