Birds have been a subject of art for 40,000 years, from cave paintings to the present day. During this long time, artistic images of feathered creatures have changed. They have been painted as gods, as food, and finally as just birds. Birds used to be thought of as stupid, but now scientists believe that crows have consciousness. Evolutionary biologists believe that after the next ecological disaster, birds have every chance to evolve into super-beings and occupy the niche we now occupy. For me, birds are one of my favorite subjects. I've drawn them in ink, I've painted them in watercolor, I've scratched their images with a chisel on scratchboard. I've painted them in zoos, from life, and photos. With the advent of the iPad and apple pencil, digital drawing is getting closer to traditional drawing in terms of convenience, and I want to find out what I can create at the intersection of technology and art. In this series of images, I aim to create dynamic images of birds in pursuit of food, experimenting with color and foreshortening. Major Mitchell's cockatoo is the first in my "Birds and Food" series.
