Richard Quittenton is a 28 year old artist who makes digital collages. His work combines photographs, 3D elements, and digital paint. Born in Toronto, Richard attained a bachelors in History and Theology from the University of Toronto in 2015. In the fall after graduation he started masters studies in architecture at The University of Nevada Las Vegas. After one year in Vegas he transferred to The School of Architecture at Taliesin, where he received his Masters of Architecture in December of 2018. During his time in school and since graduation, Richard has lived and worked in New York City, Rotterdam, Shenzhen, Basel, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Scottsdale and Spring Green. After returning home because of the pandemic, Richard has been developing his body of work to draw on the experience of these cities. In graduate school, Richard explored the digital sphere and its proclivity for interaction with architecture, the user, and the city, via images. This fascination stems from his thesis, which questioned the ways the natural world is viewed and experienced via the internet. This lens is the foundation for all of his projects. The basic question is: how does the digital sphere interact with, alter, sample, remix, screen, filter, and change the ‘real world’? More recently, Richard is developing two bodies of work: painted collages that refract urban situations; and painted renderings that act as digital reinterpretations of the cities he has lived in.
