John Henry Dictaphone draws the face using screen and stylus, sometimes with a finger, on mobile smart phones or tablets. Sometimes, he reverts to paper. His style is vicious, viscous, repeated and heavily drawn. He uses applications to create full-colour images directly on the device's screen, modifying the colour and hue and layering brushstrokes of various widths and opacities. His work is made small to be blown-up to architectural scale. John Henry Dictaphone discovered the drawing function on the Sony Ericsson W810i, then gravitated towards the iPhone. Since that time, he has created hundreds of images of the face. John Henry Dictaphone was born in Bellshill, a post-industry steel town that spawned some notable singers and bands and was once visited by the late John Peel. He now lives and works in Montreal, Canada. 'Bloody John. Shaken not stirred'.
