About The Artwork

I was born in The Bahamas. Every Christmas and New Year's Eve, we have a massive Junkanoo parade , complete with dancers and musicians dressed in fringed paper mache colorful paper shaking cowbells, beating goat skin drums and blowing brass instruments, and dancing in the streets in the early morning hours.. There is a lot of movement and RAW color that one sees in this exciting show, and one that I used as a reference and inspiration for the original painting. I have kept the original painting (5' X 5') for over 46 years, and there will be a time when I will be willing to part with it, but it so much reminds me of my youth... Carefree and dancing in the streets to the rhythmic music of Junkanoo...

Being born in Nassau Bahamas, I incorporate its of color and movement in my art. As a child was entranced by the brilliant turquoise seas and white powder sands. The Bahamas is filled with intense Yellow Elders, our National flower, pink flamingos, intensely colored poinciana trees, purple bougainvillea. and crimson Hibiscus Flowers. My favorite time of the year is always Christmas and The New Year's holidays because of the whirling parades of our National Junkanoo Festival. I recall the bright colorful costumes made of fringed crepe paper, undulating in the streets to the beat of the goat skin drums, and metal cowbells and bellowing horns. Although I now reside in The U.S. those memorable flashes of color and movement constantly invade my art as abstract representations of the home that I will always love. I like to use splashes of pure acrylic colors along with objects that enhance and intensify my message. Also, I have been an avid photographer and lately started combing the two disciplines. I hold degrees in both Fine Art and Photography, and have won several awards, including "Best of Show" My work as been exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, and California, Miami, Budapest Hungry, and The Bahamas.
