‘Nighthawks Diner, Homage to Edward Hopper’, Aluminum Dye Sublimation, 80 X 120 cm (32 X 48 inches), 2019 Edward Hopper, a renowned 20th century American painter, has always been a great inspiration for me. His works frequently reflected his view of the contemporary loneliness and indifference life, prevailing in both urban and rural America. 'Nighthawks', painted in 1942, is probably one of his best-known artworks. It shows an all-night diner with a bartender serving three customers sitting at the counter. The painting is characterized by the green, yellow and red/brown electric lights which set the diner apart from the dark night outside, enhancing the mood and subtle emotion. 'Nighthawks Diner, Homage to Edward Hopper' with its glowing neon sign, humbly tries to somewhat promote Hopper’s gloomy 'Nighthawks' diner, employing the basic colors of the painting, yet preserving the somber and alienating atmosphere of the diner. My artworks are usually about fantastic realities which are portrayed employing dazzling colors and razor-sharp details. These fantastic realities only happen within my mind and consequently in my computers, where they are conceived, designed, fashioned, textured, painted and finally photographed. The neon sign which is installed against the brick wall, as portrayed in my painting, is certainly imaginary and never existed in real life and it seems to me that the present artwork fairly represents my artistic practice.
