About The Artwork

Rangoli is an art form, originating in India which patterns are created on the floor or the ground using materials such as colored rice, dry flour, colored sand or flower petals. It is usually made during Hindu festivals in the Indian subcontinent. Designs are passed from one generation to the next, keeping both the art form and the tradition alive. The purpose of rangoli is decoration, and it is thought to bring good luck. Design depictions may also vary as they reflect traditions, folklore, and practices that are unique to each area. It is traditionally done by girls or women. Generally, this practice is showcased during occasions such as festivals, auspicious observances, marriage celebrations and other similar milestones and gatherings.

I make my art for myself:) "People always make the mistake of thinking art is created for them. But really, art is a private language for sophisticates to congratulate themselves on their superiority to the rest of the world. As my artist’s statement explains, my work is utterly incomprehensible and is therefore full of deep significance". (Bill Watterson) I do enjoy working in all media but my latest favorite is digital and mixed media collage. My interest is focused on raw expression, on the interaction between color and emotion and how it is conveyed through different materials, paints, different tools’ strokes and embossing. My restless mind continually challenges me to experiment with new media, methods, materials, tools and ideas, which I find everywhere, sometimes all of a sudden and in most unexpected places. I often start my paintings without not even having a vague idea about what it will be like. Then something happens, my hands turn into mere tools, my mind proceeds to "nirvicharta", I can feel "purusha" detached from "prakriti" and here it is, my work comes out complete.
