United States
George Bayer is an international artist originally from the USA who, for the time being, has left Russia and Taiwan to bring his incredibly creative inspirations back to Florida and Istanbul. A unique story of international experiences, Russian, European influence, and Asian magic. Living in Asia George learned to create paper collage cut outs of cats while practicing and studying at a temple in Japan. His inspiration and personal lived experience cover five decades of political pain, sacrifice and struggle. Now separated by the war in Ukraine from his Russian wife, his artistic output is accelerating fast. Colorful, striking, passionate, dancing with images of horror, but never quite finding them, even his darkest works offer color, humor, and a smile The ardent progression and development of George’s current works can be seen through four stages. Construction and forms of the ceramic works as they become more three-dimensional and culturally inspired in the “Dangerous Kiss” collection. The hypnotic, chromatic, and abstract use of three-dimensional shapes, colors, and patterns in the collages of “Wisdom of Randomness” series. The relentless, graphic, representational, nostalgic, menacing colorful layers of the montages of the “Crisis Inspired Creativity” works. The Animated and haunting characters inspired and brought to life from discarded and forgotten materials from the "Whimsical Palette of Salvaging" project. The Taiwan Ceramics “Dangerous Kiss” exhibition was an Asian and Medieval Perspective in clay. The ceramic works were influenced strongly by Asian and Medieval art, sprinkled with a bit of humor. George’s interpretations and use of traditional shapes and stories are playfully dangerous (The sharp menacing teeth), while at the same time, comforting from the use of characters (Rabbit and the Dragon), primary colors and glazes. The struggle between the rabbit and the dragon plays an important part in the recurring theme of all the works. The American Collages “Wisdom of Randomness” works are playfully, abstract, colorful games of connect the dots with no logical patterns. Each work is an accumulation of shapes and colors that we try hard to recognize and or associate to/with something real and formative. It is as if George wants to surprise, delight, insight and inspire the viewer to move around the works as the three-dimensional works appear to fly off and out of their virtual space with fervent energy.
