October arrives, and so do all the businesses trying to make money off of human tragedy. It always puzzles me when I see « Pink Merch » being sold with no donations or action attached to it. Somehow, we have gotten to a point where it seems perfectly okay for breast cancer awareness to have become a « seasonal buying » excuse. Cotton candy does not save lives. This year, when you sport that pink ribbon or flower or t-shirt or bag or phone cover, make sure you are also doing your part: donate for cancer research, mobilize for a better cure, help someone struggling with the disease, promote screening, support fundraising campaigns, and most importantly, remember to make this symphony in pink more than just noise. This painting lives up to its message. I will donate part of my profit from it to a cancer research foundation. The beautifully rendered painting with the 3D handmade fabric flowers and delicate beads make this piece a truly unique addition to your space. D-rings and wire attached for hanging, stretched, unframed canvas.

Ghia Haddad is a visual artist from Dubai. Born in Beirut, she lived through war and displacement and understands the power that art and artists have to spark positive social change through expressive color and imagery. She is passionate about examining identities of underrepresented women through her figurative art. Ghia expresses these identities by infusing her female portrait paintings with flowing fabrics, handmade flowers, beads, string and embroidery, thus challenging the traditional belief that fiber art does not have a legitimate space within high art. She also paints Arabic calligraphy with fabric collages on acrylic pours - vivid expressions in the language of her people; Arabic words mirroring the journey of their experience and the shades of their shifting identities.
