About The Artwork

The huge fisherman stood cramped between the towering brick buildings, barely enough room for him to fully extend his arms. Despite the narrow passage, he held up his fishing net triumphantly, displaying the flopping fishs tangled within its mesh. His wrinkled hands clutched the net's handles, knuckles white from the effort. Behind him, the buildings loomed tall and oppressive, their windows dark and empty like unseeing eyes. The occasional breeze funneled down the alley, carrying with it the scents of the city - car exhaust, garbage, and humanity. But the fisherman only had eyes for his catch, a hard-won prize plucked from the murky waters that still managed to thrive amidst the urban sprawl. He stared proudly at the fish as they twisted and flipped about, their scales glinting silver. he always thinks this will be a reminder to the world that nature will endure even in the most unexpected places.

As an artist, I find myself drawn to mixed media and portrait drawing as my preferred mediums. There is something magical about capturing the essence of a person or scene through pencil, paint, collage, and other artistic tools. When creating a portrait, I carefully observe my subject, taking note of the unique details that make them who they are - the crinkle in the corners of their eyes when they smile, the curve of their lips, the swoop of their hair. I take my time building up textures and tones on the page, blending graphite and charcoal dust to recreate luminous skin and softly blurred backgrounds. For mixed media pieces, I combine watercolor washes, ink illustrations, magazine clippings, tissue paper, and found objects to produce multi-layered, visually intricate works of art. The process of selecting and arranging the disparate elements into a cohesive whole is both challenging and gratifying. I often use mixed media for abstract self-portraits, collaging personal photographs and symbols to represent different aspects of myself in an oblique yet meaningful way. My art practice centers around capturing the human experience through creative observation and imaginative use of materials - portraying not just outer appearances but the inner essence of my subjects.
