In English, Welsh, and Scottish folklore, there exists two kinds of fairies, the two courts. The daytime (especially dawn and twilight) is for the court of the Seelie, but the night is the time of the Unseelie. The Unseelie court is the more wicked of the two and is comprised of the more troublesome of the fey, creatures such as boggles, bogies, and boggarts. Though not necessarily evil or malevolent, they tend to lean that way. Here is an image inspired by the idea of the Unseelie court. A dark faerie queen sits on a stone throne in a patch of mushrooms where lies a moss covered human skull. Next to her stands her chief boggart, who appears has a horned man carrying a magic staff that lights the scene. An array of other goblins and and dark creatures fill the scene, with even more glowing eyes peering from the darkness beyond. I created this image during the Halloween season of 2018 for an art contest...which I wound up not entering as it took me too long to complete the scene. ...but I still like the way it turned out. I want my art to be the doorway to ones imagination, a spark that leads to daydreams of journeys into history, fantasy worlds, and even the occassional dark lands of horror. Hence, I refer to my art as work as "Adventurous Art". Growing up in the foothills of the Appalachians, I've spent a great deal of time outdoors hiking, fishing and camping in the forests of north Georgia. Consequently, nature and organic forms play a big role in my images. I like to portray animals and creatures, but I’ll depict the occasional person as well; and almost always set in a natural environment. My art has been featured in the pages of Wild West, natural history, and horror magazines. I've had illustrations appear on everything from the covers of fantasy novels to the science sections of newspapers. A few of my works have even found their way into museums of science and history. So, welcome...and sit back and enjoy the adventure.
