Art Description

New Media: Digital, Color, New Media on Canvas, Paper, Other.

The inspiration for this exotic digital print grew after I cancelled a premium 30 day free trial from a well known online global marketing company. I can't resist a good pun, hence the title: Amazonian Prime.

I decided to play around using images of Amazonian birds and mammals to create the prime number pattern.

This print depicts numbers 1 to 30 (after all it was a 30 day free trial!) using images of a single bird or animal for primes 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23 and 29. Non-prime numbers are represented by the group of prime factors that make up the number. So for instance, prime number 2 is a single toucan and non-prime 4 has two toucans representing its factors (2x2=4).

This way, all the numbers up to 30 are represented by images of Amazonian birds and mammals. The only exception is number 1, which is a rainforest. This is also the backdrop for all the numbers as every number can be divided by 1.

So, a very familiar premium service transformed into one of my prime number artworks.
